What is … Ableton Live?

March 17, 2010

The session view from Ableton. It is arranged like a spreadsheet. Each cell is a sound clip.Ableton Live is a software program that enables you to play music from your computer. iTunes allows you to do that but … Ableton Live lets you edit the song and create loops within the song and change the pitch [or key] and change the tempo [without changing the pitch]. Ableton Live is used by DJs around the world to match beats and create something new out of existing material. It can also be used by KJs [Karaoke enthusiants].

Imagine taking songs from your iTunes library and dropping them in Ableton.  Without destorying the original song, Ableton can manipulate the song for your purposes. Whether it be to DJ and have a party or lead a church worship service, Ableton can be used to create music. It is a great tool to augment your existing band or musicians. Adding transitions and sounds to the mix can improve the performance.

Performance is only half of what Ableton Live can do.  The other half is related to recording music and overall music production. Ableton runs on a PC or Mac.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Marshall
