This piece of hardware started it all. I can’t say enough nice things about this midi controller. It is realiable, well designed and easy to use. This one piece of hardware has opened up Ableton to all the performance possibilities.
As a live performer, using a computer has been impossible. A keyboard and a mouse are too tedious and limiting when performing. With the Launchpad, you can focus on the performance and not the computer software.
When I first saw the Launchpad, I got it. Meaning, I bought it and “I got” what Ableton was all about. The ability to trigger sound clips on demand and in tempo with the music opens up all kinds of possiblities.
This is so easy to use with Ableton. Just plug it into the USB port and it works. Not additional power is needed. I do have issues sometimes when the software and hardware do not connect. A restart of the program fixes this every time. We have been performing live with the Launchpad for about 2 months now and have not had any issues.
Just recently have started using the Launchpad to DJ and trigger things in real time. It is responsive and works great. By real time, I mean that as a song is playing, I hit the button and start the clip “cold” and in time. This takes a little practice but it works great.
All said … if you are using Ableton or considering buying Ableton. GET A NOVATION Launchpad. It will change your life.
